Junior Harkey

Junior Jefferson Harkey, 88 years of age, of Concord, passed away Tuesday, December 16, 2014.

Mr. Harkey was born February 9, 1926 in Stanly County, North Carolina to the late Daniel Harkey and the late Dorabelle Burris Harkey.
He was also preceded in death by his brothers Fred Harkey, Clinton Harkey and Theodore Harkey.

He proudly served in the United States Army from 1944 to 1946. Junior loved being with people and square dancing. He took his family camping and enjoyed spending time with them. Junior spent hours on the family farm plowing fields, planting corn and bailing hay. He was an avid NASCAR fan, and enjoyed listening to Atlanta Braves baseball games on the radio. Mr. Harkey loved his neighbors who were like family to him.

The family will receive friends from 5:00 pm - 7:00 pm, Friday, December 19, 2014 at Hartsell Funeral Home of Concord. The funeral service will be on Friday at 7:00 pm at Hartsell Funeral Home Chapel of Concord. Burial will take place at 11:00 am on Saturday, December 20 at the Carolina Memorial Park in Kannapolis.

Survivors include his daughter, Jill Harkey Gaither and husband Doug of Oriental, NC; son, Jeff Harkey and wife Lynn of China Grove, NC; brothers Grady Lee Harkey of Albemarle, NC, and Billy Joe Harkey of Virginia; sisters Beulah Sides of Mt. Pleasant, NC, Shirley Page of Stanfield, NC, and Yvonne Tucker of Florida; grandsons Jeffery Harkey, Jr. and wife Kristy of Concord, and Matthew Harkey and wife Brittany of China Grove, NC; as well as two great grandchildren Mina and Jefferson Harkey of Concord.
