John Rogers

John Pershing Rogers, age 92 of Oakboro, passed away on Wednesday, June 20, 2012 at Carolinas Medical Center-NE. The family will receive friends at First Baptist Church of Oakboro on Friday, June 22 from 1:00 PM until 2:00 PM The funeral service will follow at 2:00 PM, officiated by Dr. Terrell Watts and Rev. Chip Alsobrooks. Burial will be in the Oakboro Cemetery. At other times, the family will meet at his home. Mr. Rogers was born in Stanly County on December 18, 1919 to the late Benjamin Marshall Rogers and the late Lorena Furr Rogers. He is also preceded by his wife, Margaret Furr Rogers in 2004. He is survived by one daughter, Debbie Edwards of Oakboro; two grandsons, Charles Edwards and his wife Christi of Ridgecrest and John Edwards and his wife Stephanie of Oakboro; five great grandchildren, Colby, Connor, Caden, Mason and Morgan. Mr. Rogers proudly served his country in the U.S. Army during World War II. Memorials may be made to First Baptist Church of Oakboro Building Fund, 322 N. Main Street, Oakboro, NC 28129.
