John Warren Bowers, Jr., 81, of Mount Gilead, NC, passed away Monday, July 14, 2025, at McWhorter Hospice House in Monroe.
John was born September 29, 1943, in Newport News, Virginia to John Warren Bowers and Virginia Fuquay Bowers.
John attended Graham High School and was a graduate of Elon College, majoring in chemistry, which led to a career in chemical sales, taking him to many countries as well as traveling extensively in the USA.
John was an active member of First Lutheran Church. He accompanied the youth group on many of their mission trips, creating lasting relationships with the young people.
In his earlier years, John enjoyed golf, fishing, NASCAR, UNC sports, woodworking and a good drink of scotch.
John served his country in the Navy and the NC National Guard.
John and Gloria lived in Woodrun on Lake Tillery for more than 30 years, where they loved hosting family reunions and many parties.
A visitation will be held Monday, July 21, 2025, 10:00 am at First Lutheran Church, 230 S. 2nd. Street, Albemarle, NC 28001. A service will follow at 11:00 am, officiated by Rev. James Laurence. The family ask that you join them for a reception immediately following the service.
Survivors include wife, Gloria Bowers; sons, Jonathan Bowers (Julie) and Joel Bowers (Sarah); stepdaughter, Alison Brewbaker; stepson, Brent Brewbaker (Cindy); grandchildren, Zane, Camden, Will, Kaitlyn, and Preston; brother, Doug Bowers (Shirley); sister, Gail Bowers, and many nephews, nieces, and cousins.
We would like to thank the staff of Spring Arbor, in Albemarle, for their loving care and kindness, over the past year. We would also like to thank McWhorter Hospice House in Monroe.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to First Lutheran Church, 230 S. 2nd Street, Albemarle, NC 28001, or a charity of your choice.
