Joan Mason

Joan Morgan Mason, 82, of Harrisburg, passed away on Sunday, September 20th, 2026 at PruittHealth.

Joan was born on June 9, 1944 in Dutton, Alabama to the late Charlie and Winnie Morgan. She met her husband-to-be, Robert Mason, while he was serving in the Army at Fort Benning, Georgia. They were married on December 1, 1963 and moved back to Robert’s hometown in North Carolina where they welcomed their son, Charles, on June 29, 1969.

Joan worked for many years at Belk Store Services and was a member of Sugaw Creek Presbyterian Church for over 60 years. She enjoyed collecting ceramic figurines, caring for her pet birds, and staying active into her 80s while enjoying rural life on the family’s 150-acre farm.

In addition to her parents, Joan is preceded in death by her husband of 58 years, Robert Mason, and by her sister, Carolyn, of Fort Payne. She is survived by her son, Charles Mason, of Harrisburg, NC.

The family will receive friends on Sunday, September 27, 2026 from 2:00–3:00 p.m. at Hartsell Funeral Home, Harrisburg, NC 28075. Services will follow at 3:00 p.m. at the funeral home, officiated by Pastor Caroline East.
