Jimmy Allen Drye, 86, of Concord, went home to be with his Lord & Saviour on Sunday, February 26, 2023. Jimmy passed at home with family by his side.
Jimmy was born August 9, 1936 in Johnson City, TN, to the late Fred Allen Drye and the late Frances Hoover Rhoads.
Jimmy was honored to serve his country as a retired veteran of the U.S. Air Force and Army Reserves. After his military career, Jimmy enjoyed working at A&P Tea Company and Lowe's Home Improvement for many years. He was a past member of Gloryland Baptist Church in Charlotte and Genesis Baptist Church in China Grove. More recently, Jimmy attended Hunter Acres Baptist Church in Charlotte. He loved woodworking and playing the harmonica. He'll also be remembered for his good sense of humor. Most of all, Jimmy was a loving husband, daddy, and Paw Paw. Jimmy dearly loved the time spent with his grandsons and great-granddaughter. Remember that Jimmy is "fine as frog hair, split down the middle, and broke on both ends."
Survivors include beloved wife of 63 years, Nellie Yvonne Stiles Drye of the home; daughter, Sherry Yvonne Blackwell of Concord; son, Shan Allen (Glenda) Drye of Charlotte; son, Sandy Kip (Robin) Drye of Salisbury; grandsons, Robert Dean Broome of Locust and William Daniel Blackwell of Concord; great-granddaughter, Addie Grace Broome of China Grove; brother-in-law, Jack Stiles of Batesburg, SC; and numerous nephews and nieces.
