Jimmie Garmon

Jimmie Leighton Garmon, 78 years of age, of Concord, passed away Saturday, January 3, 2015 surrounded by his family and close friends at the Tucker Hospice House in Kannapolis, NC.

Mr. Garmon was born April 11, 1936 in Cabarrus County to the late John L. Garmon and the late Mary C. Garmon.

Jimmie was a 1954 graduate of Bethel High School and played with the American Legion Baseball Team in his younger years. He retired from the Concord Telephone Company with over 35 years of service. He loved all types of sports especially baseball, basketball and golf. He loved woodworking and was the ultimate handyman. He was a lifelong member of Howell’s Missionary Baptist Church where he served as the Chairman of the Trustee Committee and was Treasurer of the Cemetery Trust Fund. He was a dearly loved husband, father, grandfather and friend who will be deeply missed by all who knew him.

The family will receive friends from 2:00 pm - 3:00 pm, Thursday, January 8, 2015 at Howell’s Missionary Baptist Church. The funeral service will follow at 3:00 pm officiated by Rev. Gary Pinkley. Burial will follow at the Howell’s Missionary Baptist Church Cemetery.

Survivors include his wife of 56 years, Ella Von Garmon; daughters, Jan G. Griffin and husband John of Concord, NC; Paula G. Blackburn and husband Randy of Laurinburg, NC; and a beloved grandson, Cameron Griffin of Concord, NC; brother, John Sherrill Garmon and wife JoAnn of Concord, NC; aunts, Janie Joyner (Clinton) of Concord, Mildred Huneycutt of Locust and an uncle, Ray Cook of San Diego, CA; one niece, one nephew and several cousins.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Howell’s Missionary Baptist Church Cemetery Trust Fund, 3800 Baptist Lane, Concord, NC 28025 or Tucker Hospice House in Kannapolis, NC.
