Janie Pence Brooks

Janie Pence Brooks, 87, of Albemarle, passed away Wednesday, August 13, 2025 at Atrium Hospice Union in Monroe.

Janie was born April 18, 1938 in New London, North Carolina to the late Edgar Franklin Pence and the late Rachel Mae Buchanan Pence. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Donald Elson Brooks, Sr., and brothers, Joe Frank Pence and James Edgar Pence.

Janie was a homemaker and while raising her children she was a seamstress in her home and later, her own fabric store, "Town & Country" in Oakboro, NC. Afterwards, she began her career at The Hartford Insurance Co., from which she retired. She loved picking vegetables in gardens, decorating cakes for many special occasions, crocheting, and western square dancing. Janie was a faithful member of over 50 years at Rocky Mount Baptist Church, where she sang in their choir, taught Sunday school, and worked as the church treasurer.

The family will receive friends from 11:00 am - 11:45 am, Monday, August 18, 2025 at Rocky Mount Baptist Church, Polkton, North Carolina. The funeral service will follow at 12:00 pm, officiated by Rev. Marty Quick and Rev. Billy Hill. Burial will follow at the Rocky Mount Baptist Church Cemetery at 4167 Rocky Mount Church Road, Polkton, North Carolina.

Survivors include sons, Tim (Robin) Eatman of Polkton, NC; Barrett (Jeanette) Eatman of Albemarle, NC; daughter, Melanie (JB) Richardson of Peachland, NC; stepchildren, Donna Gale (Scott) Meynardie of Stanfield, NC; Donald Elson (Donna) Brooks, Jr. of Locust, NC; Rita Pethel of Locust, NC; grandchildren, Steven (Leslie) Rorie of Mount Pleasant, NC, Jana (Jacob) Overcash of Concord, NC, and Jasmine (Mark) Smith of Albemarle, NC; numerous step-grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great grandchildren; brother, Rodney Pence of Mt. Pleasant, NC, and sisters, Saundra (Robert) Little of Norwood, NC, and Diane Buckenmeyer of New London, NC.
