Jane Evelyn Honeycutt

Jane Whitley Honeycutt, beloved wife and mother, passed away on March 28, 2026. She is now with her Lord and Savior, and has been reunited with her husband and loved ones who have gone before her and her body has been healed. She is survived by her daughter, Nancy Honeycutt, of Albemarle, and so many wonderful nieces and nephews that she loved immensely.

Jane was born on October 23, 1929, in Oakboro, N.C., to the late Manasseh Leghorn Whitley and Nancy Vivian Barbee Whitley. She was preceded in death by her husband, Baxter A. Honeycutt. She was the youngest of ten children and was surrounded by love and knew the value of hard work and simplicity from her life on a farm, which she always lovingly called "The Homeplace". Jane met the love of her life in October 1946. She was 17 years old and "courting" another fellow, but a young man caught her eye. This handsome man had just gotten out of the Navy after four years of service. After a few months of courtship (or "Honeycutt'ing around" as her Daddy would say), they became engaged in May 1947, and were married in June 1949. They celebrated 66 years of marriage before Baxter passed in August 2015.

Jane happily embraced the role of a wife and she was right by her husband's side when he decided to join the United States Air Force. They were stationed on bases in Delaware, Texas, Indiana and Arkansas. The only time they were apart from each other was when her husband was stationed in Guam and New Guinea. She stayed in the States being a wonderful Moma to her daughter. Upon Baxter's retirement, they returned back home to Stanly County, NC. Jane was an amazing seamstress who made the most beautiful clothing, and quilts. She and her sisters were often gathered around a quilting rack talking, laughing and reminiscing of younger times. Jane & Baxter joined Main Street United Methodist Church where Jane became very involved in United Methodist Women. She had her hands in so many things at the church: from making crafts, organizing Bazaars, herding the Acolytes, decorating the Altar during the holidays. She will be remembered fondly for her ruling of The Hut and making sure the younger women knew what to do and how to do it. Jane & Baxter developed many close friendships at Main Street, and those friendships turned into family. Weekend trips and bus tours were taken, car shows attended and many meals were shared where all the problems of the world were discussed and solved.

Jane was the most loving wife and mother God could bless a family with. She loved unconditionally, loyally and fiercely and her life revolved around Baxter and Nancy. She will be missed beyond measure by all who knew her and loved her. Our loss is Heaven's gain, and during this Holy Week there is a joyous reunion happening In Heaven.

The family will receive friends from 1:00 pm - 1:45 pm, Wednesday, April 1, 2026 at Main Street United Methodist Church, Albemarle, NC, followed by the service at 2:00 pm. The Reverend Katie Lineberger and Reverend Billy Rintz will officiate the service. Burial will follow at the Stanly Gardens of Memory, 2001 East Main Street, Albemarle, NC.
