Jane Mildred Aikey, 91, of Rockwell, NC, passed away Thursday, December 29, 2022, at The Meadows of Rockwell in Rockwell.

Jane was born March 26, 1931, in Staten Island, New York. Jane grew up in France as a young child and moved back to Staten Island, New York. Her mother Georgette was born in France and was an English teacher in Paris. Jane was proud of her French heritage and embraced being American and French.

Her father Charles was a professional boxer and had careers in the Army and FBI. He served in three wars and has medals for his achievements.

Jane was a proud full-time Mom with seven children. She loved her family and was always proud of her sons and their families. She was highly active in the church and taught religious classes at home. She also did Meals on Wheels and read for illiterate in rural areas.

Jane’s passion was to garden, and she had a green thumb. She loved to play the piano while her husband played the harmonica, especially with the whole family around during the holidays. She loved to cook, especially French food.

Jane enjoyed socializing when she could and frequently would go to the store and engage in conversations with complete strangers, discussing why her cat Bunny would not eat.

Jane was predeceased by her husband of 72 years, Bill, and their sons Michael and John. She was also predeceased by her sister Mimi and her brother George.

She is survived by her sons William C Aikey and his wife Susan of Massachusetts; Donald J Aikey of Massachusetts; Robert G Aikey and his wife Catherine of North Carolina; Charles F Aikey and his wife Marianne of New Jersey; Thomas J Aikey and his wife Deborah of New Jersey. Jane is survived by eleven grandchildren and eleven great-grandchildren.

The family will receive friends from 6:00 pm - 8:00 pm, Sunday, January 8,2023 at Hartsell Funeral Home of Concord. The funeral service will be on Monday, January 9, at 2:00 pm at Saint Thomas Aquinas Roman Catholic Church in Charlotte officiated by Father Raymond. A burial will follow at Carolina Memorial Park of Harrisburg, located at 12015 University City Blvd., Charlotte.

We want to thank the staff at the Meadows for taking loving care of Jane.

We are going to miss Jane very much. She is at peace now; thanks be to God.
