James L. Honeycutt, 85, of Stanfield, North Carolina, passed away Sunday, March 1, 2026, at his home surrounded by family.

James was born March 3, 1940, in Yancey County, North Carolina, to the late Starling P. Honeycutt and Annie Elkins Lupton. He was also preceded in death by his brothers, Johnny Honeycutt and Ben Honeycutt, and his sister, Brenda Taylor.

James was a man who found joy in the simple and meaningful things in life. He loved spending time outdoors, whether fishing, camping, or simply enjoying God’s creation. He had a gift for woodworking and took pride in working with his hands, building and fixing things not just as a hobby, but as a way of caring for those he loved. He was happiest when surrounded by family, sharing stories, laughter, and quiet moments alike. His steady presence, strong work ethic, and deep love for his family will be remembered for generations.

He is survived by his brother and sister, Eddie Honeycutt and Linda Nayadley; his children, David Mark Honeycutt, Susan Lynn Neil, Barbara Jo Hollis, Bradley Jay Honeycutt, Jeffrey David Honeycutt and Mike Powell; along with his cherished grandchildren and great-grandchildren, Chris (Kate) Neil (Landon, Ryan, Jackson), Cody Honeycutt, Jake Honeycutt, Brooke (Andrew) Mullis (Rosie, Tobias, Daxton, Tatum), and Dakota (Kelley) Honeycutt.

The family will be having a private viewing. A graveside service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, March 6, 2026, at Sunset Memorial Gardens, 8901 Lawyers Road, Mint Hill, North Carolina.
