James Ervin Hartsell

James Ervin Hartsell, 90, of Midland, passed away peacefully at home on Thursday, October 23, 2025.

Ervin was born December 26, 1934 in Concord to the late Herbert Jackson Hartsell and the late Delette Black Hartsell. He was also preceded in death by brothers, Rob and Jack Hartsell; and sister, Gay Irvin.

Ervin worked for Piedmont Auto Exchange and Poe Corporation in Charlotte. He later owned and operated Midland Auto Parts. He enjoyed fishing and working in his big vegetable garden. Ervin loved to share his vegetables with everyone. He was an avid fan of NY Yankees, NASCAR, Washington Redskins and Duke Basketball. He was a member of Bethel Church (S.R. McEachern Sunday School Class) and was very involved with the church for many years. Most of all, Ervin was a loving husband, daddy, grandpa and brother. He will be forever loved and dearly missed.

Survivors include his beloved wife of 68 years, Kathleen Mason Hartsell of Midland; son, Mason (Shawn) Hartsell of Midland; granddaughters, Ali (Scott) Cline of Kannapolis and Mia (Cody) Baker of Monroe; great-grandsons, Grady and Kayden Cline; sisters, Rose Wagoner and Betty Hase of N. Myrtle Beach, SC, and Jane Bates Honea Path, SC; and several nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends from 12:00 pm - 12:45 pm, Saturday, November 1, 2025, at Bethel Church in Midland. Ervin's Celebration of Life will follow at 1:00 pm on Saturday at Bethel Church, officiated by Rev. Jeremy Brackett. Ervin will be laid to rest during a private committal service in the church columbarium.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Hospice of Cabarrus or to Bethel Church.
