Helen Kimenhour, 65, of Charlotte, NC, passed away on April 29 after a courageous and hard-fought battle with cancer. Surrounded by love, she left this world in the arms of her children—fulfilling every mother’s dream. She leaves behind a legacy of laughter, love, and kindness that will continue to ripple through the lives of everyone she touched.
Helen was born in Pennsylvania to the late William and Catherine Kimenhour.
She was the kind of person who never met a stranger. Goofy, warm, and unapologetically herself, she had a way of lighting up a room and making you feel like you belonged. Whether you were family, a friend, or someone she just met, you walked away feeling better just for having spoken with her.
She spent her career doing what she did best—connecting with people. A people-person through and through, Helen thrived in roles that put her at the heart of human interaction.
Outside of work, Helen found joy in the simple things: crocheting gifts for loved ones, crafting with her grandchildren, traveling with friends and family, and soaking in precious moments with her children and grandchildren. Her love was a constant, and her family always came first.
She is survived by her daughter, Heather Lemire (Joshua) of Midland, NC; daughter, Shannon Crouthers of Monroe, NC; and son, David Crouthers of Charlotte. She also leaves behind her beloved grandchildren; granddaughters Catherine Lemire and Lexi Lemire; grandson Brantley Lemire; granddaughters Olivia Liske and Adalyn Liske; and granddaughters Emilia Crouthers and Sophia Crouthers. She is also survived by her beloved sisters, Deborah Neidrich, Arlene Campbell, and Marianne Kimenhour, and her brother William Kimenhour (Janet).
Helen would be the first to say, through tears or laughter, that what matters most is how we show up for one another. In her words, “Just be decent people.”
The family will receive friends on May 10, 2025, from 10:00 AM to 12:00 PM, followed by a memorial service officiated by Deacon Mark Nash at Hartsell Funeral Home, 13575 Broadway Ave., Midland, NC 28107.
Helen would love for you to attend—to support each other, especially her children and grandchildren whom she left too soon.
In honor of her memory, we ask that you take a moment to hug your loved ones, laugh a little louder, and reach out to someone who might need a friend today—Helen would’ve done the same.
