Harry Clay

Harry Junior Clay, 97, died Saturday, March 28, 2015 at his home.

He was born in Cabarrus County on April 12, 1917 to the late Wherry M and Pearl Clay. In addition to his parents he is also preceded in death by five brothers and four sisters.

Mr. Clay served in the US Army during WWII from November 14, 1941 to June 29, 1945. He saw combat action in the South Pacific including Iwo Jima and Guadalcanal and was awarded the Good Conduct Medal and Bronze Star. Harry retired from Cannon Mills Plant 1 with 44 years of service. He then worked part time for 15 years at the Food Shelf.

Harry is survived by his loving wife of 64 years, Christine Clay of Five Oaks Manor; daughter, Cathy Buck and husband David of Concord; granddaughter, Austin Determan and husband Randy of Harrisburg; grandson, Matthew Buck of Columbia, SC; great-grandson, Peyton Determan of Harrisburg; and brother, Bill Clay of Concord.

The family will receive friends at Roberta United Methodist Church from 2:00pm until 3:00pmon Tuesday, March 31, 2015, immediately followed by a graveside service at 3:00pm at Roberta United Methodist Church Cemetery on Cochran Road in Concord, with military honors.

The family wishes to thank the staff of Pruitt Health Hospice and his special caregivers Amanda Youngblood and Lori Thompson.
