George J. Wiesehahn, 91, of Matthews, North Carolina (formerly of Concord, NC and Wayne, NJ), passed away peacefully on Tuesday, February 3, 2026.
Born in Ankelohe, Germany, George immigrated to the United States as a teenager through Ellis Island. He proudly served his adopted country in the U.S. Army during the Korean War and later became a devoted and grateful United States citizen.
George was a hardworking and dedicated provider who held various management positions throughout his career, including roles with Columbia University, Bethlehem Steel, and Hoogovens Aluminum while living in New Jersey. After retirement, he and his beloved wife relocated to North Carolina to be closer to their family — especially their cherished grandchildren.
Never one to sit idle, George was known for his friendly spirit and strong sense of community. He could often be found chatting with neighbors, tending to his garden — often with a cold beer in hand — or enjoying a round of golf. He loved playing Pinochle with friends at the Levine Senior Center and faithfully served as Treasurer of St. John Neumann’s 50+ Club. George was also an active member of the Knights of Columbus and volunteered on the Pool Committee at Porters Landing. He was always ready to lend a helping hand and will be remembered for his kindness, generosity, and steady presence.
George is survived by his loving and devoted wife of 68 years, Anna Marie Wiesehahn; his son, Michael (Amy) Wiesehahn of Columbia, SC; and his daughter, Maria (Bill) Romeo of Concord, NC. He was a proud grandfather to five grandchildren and was extremely proud of their accomplishments, always celebrating their successes and cheering them on in every stage of life.
