George Lee Plummer

George Lee Plummer, 86, of Midland, NC went home to be with the Lord on Saturday, May 31st, 2025 in the home he dearly loved, surrounded by his family.

George was born June 26th 1938 in Cabarrus County to the late Mary Lou Hooks Plummer, and John Leroy Plummer. He was preceded in death by his wife of 67 years Shirley Simpson Plummer, brothers Ross and Lou Plummer, Johnny Plummer, and sisters Louise Yates, and Agnes Williams.

Survivors include his sister Jane Walters, and brother Don Plummer, his sons Darrill Plummer (wife Jamie), Kenneth Plummer, and daughters Beverly Plummer Watts (husband Ray) and Chrissy Plummer Smith, as well as grandchildren Jon, Melissa, Matthew, Liz, Jessica, Courtney, Nicholas, Caleb, Joey, and Jessica, and eighteen great-grandchildren, as well as many loving and faithful friends and neighbors.

George was loved by all, never met a stranger, and especially enjoyed doing anything outdoors, raising chickens, gardening (especially tomatoes), and riding on his tractor, and he was quite the “do it yourself-er” when it came to home repairs (smile). He enjoyed playing the guitar with friends and family-and especially loved bluegrass, gospel, and country music. He also loved the many canine children and grand-children he and Shirley had over the years,(Spurgeon and Missy in particular). Every fall he and the boys would make an event out of smoking BBQ pork and making Brunswick stew and red slaw, always sharing with family and friends. He enjoyed making refrigerator pickles in the summer, and liked to keep a wood stove going in the winter and took pride in keeping everybody warm and toasty.

The family will receive friends from 1:00-1:45 pm on Saturday June 7th 2025 at Pine Grove Baptist Church, followed by a celebration of life at 2:00 pm officiated by Rev Daniel Triplett and Rev Ron Honeycutt. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.

George’s family would like to especially thank Dr Mark Heitbrink and the team from Mint Hill Family Physicians and Atrium Hospice and Palliative Care of Cabarrus County for the wonderful care they provided him and his family.
