Gene Edward Shibata

With heavy hearts, we announce the peaceful passing of Gene on August 23, 2026, surrounded by love in his room. Born on March 26, 1945, in Chicago, Illinois, Gene was the cherished son of George and Yoshiko. He is predeceased by his beloved father, George, and his dear wife, Cathy.

Gene’s life was a testament to dedication, love, and laughter. A proud alumnus of UCLA, he graduated with a Master’s degree in Mathematics, a foundation that led him to a fruitful career as a programmer at Lockheed Martin. Gene was also a proud veteran, having served honorably in the U.S. Army.

In his personal life, Gene was the devoted husband to Cathy, with whom he raised two wonderful children, Bryan and Jackie. He spent many weekends taking his kids to there sports games and spending time with them. Teaching his kids how to drive and helping them grow into adulthood teaching them everything they needed to know. He often played golf and would golf with his son and family. Camping with his family was always a yearly thing in the summer and those times will always be cherished and remembered. Gene's legacy continues through them and his granddaughter, Kanani. He leaves behind his loving siblings, Alan, Betty, and Kenny, who cherished their time together.

Gene was a man of many passions. He found joy in the camaraderie of the golf course and the thrill of watching and playing sports. His kindness and humor left lasting impressions on everyone he met. A dedicated worker and a nurturing father, Gene's presence will be deeply missed but fondly remembered.

The family wishes to express their profound gratitude to the staff at Morningside Assisted Living and the hospice care team for their compassionate care and support during Gene’s final days.

Though he has departed from this world, Gene's spirit continues to shine brightly in the hearts of his family and friends. May he rest in peace, reunited with his beloved Wife Cathy, and forever cherished by all who knew him.
