Gary Lee Sill, 82, of Concord, North Carolina, passed away at home on April 9, 2026.

Gary was born on December 10, 1943, in Salem, Indiana, to the late Heber and Helen Sill. He proudly served his country as a member of the United States Army, a role he held with great honor and respect throughout his life.

Following his military service, Gary began a long and dedicated career as a truck driver, a profession he continued for 42 years until his retirement. The open road was not just his livelihood-it was his passion. He found joy in traveling far and wide, often accompanied by his beloved wife, Gloria. Together, they made countless memories exploring destinations such as NASCAR races, Pennsylvania, Myrtle Beach, and many other cherished stops along the way. Their time on the road was filled with laughter, companionship, and a shared love for adventure.

Gary also treasured the time he spent with his sons, Danny and Brian, especially during their trips to NASCAR races. Those weekends were filled with storytelling, laughter, and evenings at the campsite, often accompanied by Gary’s famous Bloody Mary. These moments became lasting memories that his family will hold close forever.

Known for his warm and outgoing nature, Gary never met a stranger. He had a gift for conversation and could strike up a friendship with anyone he encountered. He loved old country music and enjoyed spending time at the VFW, American Legion, and Moose Lodge, where he would reconnect with friends and family and share in the camaraderie he valued so deeply.

Gary will be remembered for his love of family, his dedication to his work, his pride in his service, and the countless friendships he formed throughout his life. His stories, laughter, and kind spirit will be dearly missed by all who knew him.

He leaves behind a legacy of love, adventure, and connection that will continue to live on in the hearts of his family and friends.

Gary is preceded in death by his parents, Heber Jesse Sill and Helen Fern Shaffer Richey; grandson, Danny Lee Sill II; siblings, Doris Jeanne Lyon, Chester Wayne Sill, Donald Vance Sill, John Alan Sill, and Nancy Lou Armand.

Left to cherish his memory, Gary is survived by his loving wife of 49 years, Gloria Jean Sill; children, Brian Alan Sill (Joy) and Danny Lee Sill (Mary); grandchildren, Brandon Scott Sill and Kendra Nicole Sill; and a host of extended family and close friends.

A celebration of life will be held at a later date. Hartsell Funeral Home and Crematory has been entrusted with his care.
