Floyd Ray Burris, 88 years of age, of Albemarle, went home to be with Jesus and Margaret on Sunday, June 14, 2015 at his home surrounded by family and friends.
Ray was born March 6, 1927 in Stanly County, North Carolina to the late Lawrence Arthur Burris Sr. and the late Lemmie Jane Burris. He was also preceded in death by his wife of 58 years, Margaret Teeter Burris, son Reggie Nelson Burris, grandson Kevin Ray Burris, brothers Hoover Burris and Lawrence A. Burris, Jr, and sister JV Whitley.
He was a charter member of both the Endy Volunteer Fire Department serving for 50 years and the Endy Optimist Club. Ray was a valuable member of the community, was a very generous and giving man especially when it came to sharing his famous sweet potato pies.
The family will receive friends from 6:00 pm - 9:00 pm, Wednesday, June 17, 2015 at Hartsell Funeral Home in Albemarle. The funeral service will be on Thursday at 11:00 am at Hartsell Funeral Home's Lefler Memorial Chapel officiated by Pastor Steve Barbee. Burial will follow at the Canton Baptist Church Cemetery, 24615 Endy Road in Albemarle.
Survivors include daughter, Tyra Gardner and husband Scott of Albemarle, son, Neddy Joe Burris of Albemarle, grandchildren Sherry B. Hudson and husband Daniel, Matthew N. Gardner and fiancée Hayley Helms and Mason N. Gardner, and great grandchildren Lynzee Eddins, Brandon Eddins, Kala Hudson and baby Joel Nelson Gardner, sister Marie Smith and husband Bill, long time friends Jean Burris and Tammie Burleson Helms and, of course Shep, his long time buddy and protector.
