Fermin Placino

Fermin Placino, 85, of Albemarle, passed away Thursday, July 30th at UNC Chapel Hill Hospital. Fermin was born on July 7th 1941, in Lucban, Quezon (Philippines).

He was a loving father and husband to his wife and children. Fermin was married for 53 years to Margarita Placino until her passing in June of 2025. As a child he worked on the family farm in the Philippines planting and harvesting rice. When he got older he studied Mechanical Engineering at FEATI University in Manila, Philippines. With his degree; he was recruited by a US textile company to work as a Mechanical Engineer in the United States. He and his wife came to the United States in 1972 to begin their new lives in Allentown, Pa. They moved to Albemarle, NC in 1976 where they settled down and raised their family. Fermin proudly worked as a Mechanical Engineer for over 30 years until his retirement.

In his free time he enjoyed gardening. If you drove by his house, you were sure to see him riding in his blue golf cart full of tools and tending to his garden. He grew flowers, fruits, and vegetables which he loved to share with his friends and family.

The family will receive friends and family at the funeral wake from 12-2pm, Saturday, August 8th 2026, at Hartsell Funeral Home of Albemarle. The funeral service will also be on Saturday August 8th at 2pm at Hartsell Funeral Home of Albemarle. The service will be officiated by the Very Reverend Peter Fitzgibbons VF. Burial will follow at the Norview Gardens at 949 Pee Dee Avenue, Norwood.

Survived by sons, Marvin Placino of Concord, NC and Will Placino of Raleigh, NC and daughter, Elaine Brooks of Carlisle, Pa. He is also survived by three grandchildren, Zachary Placino, Olivia Brooks and Melanie Brooks.
