Ethel Eyvone Helms, 89, of Lexington, passed away Saturday, November 22, 2025, at Hinkle Hospice House in Lexington.
Mrs. Helms was born October 16, 1936, in South Carolina to the late Charlie Haney and the late Pearl Tolar. She was also preceded in death by husband, James Edward Helms, brothers John William Haney and Clarence Wiley Davis, sister, Ann Furr and her uncle and aunt who raised her after she left the orphanage Gadi and Beulah Bullard.
Her and her sister were the first two children that the Rev. A.V. Childers took into his home and started the church of God orphanage in Concord. She loved the Lord and her church and enjoyed fellowship with the ladies auxiliary. Her children and grandchildren were her pride and joy. Her prayer has always been that all her children and grandchildren join her in heaven someday.
The family will receive friends from 6:00 pm - 8:00 pm, Tuesday, November 25, 2025, at Hartsell Funeral Home of Concord. The funeral service will be on Wednesday at 11:00 am at New Hope Freewill Baptist Church in Concord officiated by Pastor Roger Bostic. A burial will follow at the West Concord Cemetery at 331 Union Cemetery Rd SW, Concord.
Survivors include, sons: David (Paula) Helms, James E Helms, Jr., Joe Randell Helms, and daughter, Anita G (Mike) Miller, granddaughters: Amisha (Billy) Vondohlen, Amy Jaquez, Chasity (Brandi) Helms, grandsons: Glenn (Pamela) Smith, Alex Helms, Devon Helms, Travis Helms and a brother, Clarence Edward (Carol) Davis sister in-law, Ann (Richard) Eads, Eleven great- grandchildren , and 7 great great grandchildren.
