Edith Delores Douglas

Edith “Delores” Douglas (McConner), 100, of Harrisburg, formerly of Detroit, Michigan, transitioned peacefully in her sleep on Sunday, August 23, 2026, leaving this earthly life to be welcomed into the open arms of God. She spent the last four years of her life living in North Carolina surrounded by her immediate family.

She was the second of six children born to Norma & Walter R. McConner in Chicago, Illinois on October 19, 1925. Sisters Norma Elaine and Muriel, Brothers - Walter R. Jr.(Buddy), Stanley McConner, and James Nobel, and Courtney Jones (brother-in-law) preceded her in death.

Delores graduated from Northwestern High School and later graduated from Wayne County Community College. She attended St. Cyprian Episcopal Church at an early age. She later transferred to Grace Episcopal Church, them to St. Matthew & St. Joseph Episcopal Church (Mattie Joe). Edith was an active member of Mattie Joe, President of Episcopal Church Women (ECW), and The Guild and Usher Guild. She was an active member at St Paul's Cathedral.

Delores was a dedicated worker for Saks Fifth Avenue at the age of 16 and then worked at Himelhochs, an elegant department store in downtown Detroit for 20 years. In 1947, she married Melvin Lester Douglas (deceased) and from this union was born one child, Jennifer Venida.

In 1965 she was employed with Michigan Consolidated Gas Company (MCGC) as an Account Analyst and Bill Investigator for 23 years before retiring in 1988. While there, she was on the "Rough Stuff" golf team, for exercise and socialization.

She was honored by MCGC with a brick to commemorate "The Walter R. McConner Family" that was placed in her memory in Detroit’s Hart Plaza.

She is survived by her daughter, Jennifer (Donny), sister-in-law Ora (Courtney), grandson Alfred (Kimberly), great-grandchildren Alfred Jr. (AJ), Emerson and Emanuel, her best friend, Ouida Charles and her children, Ron and Pam, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

Delores' Celebration of Life will be held at 2:00 pm on Sunday, August 30, 2026, at Hartsell Funeral Home of Harrisburg, officiated by Chaplain Caldine Rey. Please join the family for a repast immediately following the service in Hartsell's reception room.
