Dr. Susan Holloway Snider

March 27, 1957 — January 14, 2026

Flower Mound

Dr. Susan Holloway Snider, 68, of Flower Mound, Texas, passed away on Wednesday, January 14, 2026.

Susan was born March 27, 1957, in Marion, North Carolina, to the late Joseph H. Holloway, Jr. and the late Elsie Kaylor Holloway. She was also preceded in death by her adored Scottish Terriers: Katy, MacDougal, Avery, Molly and Sandy.

Susan grew up in North Carolina, living in both Greensboro and Winston-Salem. When she was young, she liked music and was quite talented; she played the violin and later in life, sang in her church choir. She excelled at tennis and also enjoyed skiing.

Her parents moved her and her two siblings from Winston-Salem, NC to Cincinnati, Ohio and then to San Antonio, Texas. There, her family attended Castle Hills Baptist Church and Susan was loyal to her faith and her Baptist roots the rest of her life.

After high school, Susan studied to become a Dental Hygienist, a career she was dedicated to for almost 30 years. During her time in San Antonio, she worked for a facility named Rebound, specifically working with brain injury patients to help them recover and rehabilitate. Susan was a certified CPR trainer, a health educator and a teacher of anything holistic and homeopathic, for humans and dogs.

Susan helped open the first call center for Southwest Airlines in San Antonio. It was during that time she began her love for travel. She moved to Dallas and began working at Sabre, a software and technology company that was the first online airline booking company. Susan taught and trained others to use the software that Sabre designed and sold. It was there that Susan met Sam in 1989. Two years later, they were married. Together, Susan and Sam continued her passion for travel. They traveled to Hawaii, the Virgin Islands, London and all over the United States. They attended First Baptist Church in Lewisville, Texas until Susan became ill.

Susan earned her Bachelor’s degree in Health Education and Administration from Southwest Texas State University in San Marcos, Texas and her Master’s and Doctorate degrees from Texas Women’s University in Denton, Texas.

She was a college professor at both The University of Texas, Southwestern and The University of Texas, Arlington. We have no way of knowing how many people Susan touched and encouraged through her love of teaching.

She worked heavily with North Texas Scottie Rescue in the Dallas area. In fact, all but one of her Scotties were rescue dogs. She helped place many other Scotties with their forever homes. Her love for all dogs was immeasurable.

Susan liked to sew and taught her sister, Kimberly when they were younger. She loved to cook, anything and everything traditional, and also created many gluten-free meals, helping Joseph navigate that allergy. Her specialty was her shortbread cookies, rival to none. Her nephews, Joseph and Jeffrey were recipients of many of her wonderful creations. She also made sure we always had the best of anything to care for our teeth, once shipping a box of toothpaste to Jeffrey that lasted him through college. Susan was always there to give advice to all of us on the best care for our dogs.

Susan remained mentally sharp to the very end but physically, she grew weaker and weaker. She could no longer talk and had to type on her phone and it would talk for her, speaking the words she could no longer voice herself. Even in death, she was still focused on helping others. Susan was an organ donor and her donated organs were able to help 3 people who desperately needed them.

Most of all Susan was a loving wife, wonderful dog mom and an amazing sister and aunt. She will be dearly missed and forever loved.

Survivors include her beloved husband of 35 years, Samuel Snider of Flower Mound, TX; adored Scottie, Duncan; brother, Michael Holloway (Lisa) of Blanco, TX; sister, Kimberly Holloway Tanner (John) of Charlotte, NC; nephews, Brandon Holloway (April) of Blanco, TX, Joseph Tanner (Melicia) of Seneca, SC, and Jeffrey Tanner (Margaret) of Beaverton, OR; and two great nieces.

The family will receive friends from 10:30 am - 11:30 am, Monday, February 2, 2026, at Hickory Grove Baptist Church in the main sanctuary. The funeral service will follow at 11:30 am, officiated by Rev. John Harrill. Entombment will follow at Carolina Memorial Park, Kannapolis.   ~Brothers and sisters, we do not want you to be uninformed about those who sleep in death, so that you do not grieve like the rest of mankind, who have no hope. For we believe that Jesus died and rose again, and so we believe that God will bring with Jesus those who have fallen asleep in Him.
