Dowd F. Greene, Jr.

Dowd F. Greene, Jr., of Stanfield, NC, went to his heavenly father December 4, 2023 at the age of 78, surrounded by family and friends at his home, after a lengthy battle with Dementia.

Dowd was born May 26, 1945 in Mecklenburg County to the late Dowd F, Greene, Sr. and Nell Purser Greene of Stanfield, NC.  He has one surviving sister, Margaret Greene Furr (Robert) and one preceded in death, Frances Greene Hinson (Terry) of Oakboro.

He is survived by his wife and love of his life, Paulette W. Greene, childhood sweetheart and business partner of 57 years.  He has two daughters, Angela Denise Greene of Stanfield and Beth Anne Greene Janieri (Chris) of Albemarle.

Dowd graduated in the first graduating class of West Stanly High School in 1963, and started in the Overhead Door business in 1963 with Crawford Door of Charlotte.  In 1968 he joined Overhead Door of Charlotte under management at that time with Louis Nathanson doing specialty work of Rolling Steel Doors, seals, shelters and pit type levelers.

In 1971 he joined Masonic Lodge 318 in Midland.  In 1970 he started Greene's Trucking Company along with the door business hauling Rolling Steel Doors south from Pennsylvania Door to five states; Georgia, North Carolina, South Carolina, Tennessee and Florida.  In 1985 he formed Greene's Overhead Doors until present date, doing residential, commercial and industrial doors, both new work and repairs.  Dowd worked with some of the best people as customers and friends.  These people were not only customers but became long time friends.  He was devoted to making his customers pleased with his work.  From 1985 until 1995 he installed and sold metal buildings and was a distributor for American Buildings.  He served three terms on the Stanfield Town Board from 1973 - 1975, 1975 - 1977 and from 1991 - 1993.  

Dowd was a devoted father, husband, and friend to many and will be sorely missed.  He was known for his laughter and loyalty to family and friends and was loved by many, both business and personal.

Mr. Greene will be at Hartsell Funeral Home of Midland for viewing Friday, December 8, 2023 from 10:00 a.m. until 1:00 p.m.  The graveside service will follow at 2:00 p.m. in the Loves Chapel Cemetery in Stanfield, officiated by Rev. Dr. Kinney Wallace.  At other times the family will be at their home.
