Dorothy Medlin Yow

April 14, 1942 — March 2, 2026

Monroe

Mrs. Dorothy Ann Medlin Yow, born April 14, 1942, went home to the arms of her Lord and Savior on Monday March 2, 2026.

Mrs. Yow was born and raised in Union County, NC, and was the daughter of Elijah William Medlin and Lily Poplin Medlin, being one of their eleven children. She was married to her husband Donald Reid Yow on June 7, 1960, having celebrated sixty-five years of marriage last year.

Mrs. Yow was a beloved and cherished Mother to her two daughters, Lora Yow Price (Rodney) of Monroe, NC, and Tammy Yow Arrowood (Richard) of New Salem, NC, as well as a beloved "Mimi" to three grandchildren, Amanda Wade Greene (Chris) of Monroe, Brandon Scott Wade of Monroe, and Tiffany Arrowood Davis (C.J.) of Indian Trail, NC. Mrs. Yow was also a Great Grandmother to Hadley Aaron-Reid Davis, Baby Davis ("Little Dude") , and Cadence James Davis ("Sissy").

Ms.Dorothy had an undeniable love for her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, and her family. Being the matriarch, advisor, inspiration, guiding light, and the maternal glue that held her family together and strong over the years, and she wouldn't have had it any other way. She had many interests and loves such as fishing, gardening, cooking, doing word search puzzles, and admiring the beauty of hummingbirds. She also had a love for her beloved fur baby Sam, that she lost a few short years ago. She so loved that little dog.

To know Ms. Dorothy was to know someone who cherished every day of life given to her, and that her purpose in life was to ensure that those closest to her knew that they too were loved and cared for to the best of her ability. She was a caregiver to her beloved husband Don these last few years, even while her own physical condition limited her ability to do so. But again, it was simply just in her spirit, and a testament to her love and adoration for him. She is survived by her husband Don, as well as her sister, Brenda Cochran.

Mrs. Yow was preceded in death by her brothers, Melvin Medlin, Boyd Medlin, Howard Medlin, Lewis Medlin, Brady Medlin and Ernest Medlin; her sisters, Edna Love, Yoular Munson, and Audrey Mills, as well as great grandchild Baby Davis ("Little Dude").

"Mimi" will be missed by those that remain here without her now, but she'll never stray far from our hearts and minds. Putting into words the type of feelings we have when we think of her isn't hard, because it's just translating something that was already true. She was truly special. A one-of-a-kind Daughter, Wife, Mother, Grandmother, Great Grandmother, and Friend. And that kind of love doesn't disappear just because her chair now sits empty. It flourishes forever.

The family will receive friends Monday, March 9, 2026, at Hartsell Funeral Home in Midland from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. The funeral service will be Tuesday, March 10, 2026 at 2:00 p.m. in the Jack Hartsell Memorial Chapel in the funeral home.
