Doris Harris

May 29, 1924 — January 12, 2015

Doris Yow Harris, 90, of Concord, North Carolina passed away peacefully at Five Oaks Manor on Monday, January 12. She was born on May 29, 1924, the daughter of the late John Claude and Odessa Clontz Yow. Doris resided in the area all of her life and graduated from Concord High School. She began working at Hugh Grey Hosiery which in later years became Kayser Roth Hosiery. Doris was employed there until their closing when she began working in the office at Cabarrus Creamery. Doris was a faithful and active member of Covenant Presbyterian Church for 58 years. She was a devout and faithful servant of Jesus Christ. Throughout the years she served her church through Presbyterian Women, various committees, youth leader (alongside her husband), Sunday school and Bible school teacher, church deacon and elder, and cooked many delicious meals for bereaved families. Doris blessed the church singing in the choir and playing the organ and piano for church services for 50 years in a volunteer capacity. Even after she was stricken with macular degeneration and could no longer see the notes on the page, she memorized her words so she could continue to sing in the choir. Doris was a meticulous seamstress, enjoying cross stitch, macramé, cake decorating, reading, and working crossword puzzles. She was a kind and gentle soul who loved her family and was always there supporting and loving them in whatever they chose to do.
Doris was preceded in death by her first husband Edward Cline in 1945 and her second husband Robert A. Harris, Jr. in February 2000. She is survived by a son, H. Wayne Cline, Sr. and wife Donna, and a daughter, Dianne Harris Culp and husband George, both of Concord. She is also survived by five grandchildren: Harold Cline, Jr. and wife April, Edy Cline Johnston and husband Jay, Nick Culp, Katie Culp, all of Concord, and Heath Culp and fiancée Emilee Triplett of Durham. She is survived by three great-grandchildren: Chloe and Timothy Cline and Heidi Johnston. The family would like to thank the staff of Horizon Bay and Five Oaks Manor for their love and support of Doris during her time of illness. You will always hold a special place in our hearts for the care and nurturing that you showed Doris and her family. In lieu of flowers, the family would ask that you direct memorials to Covenant Presbyterian Church 731 Union Street S. Concord, NC 28025
