Donnie Gene Smith

Donnie Gene Smith, 85, of Richfield, passed away peacefully at his home on Wednesday, January 21, 2026.

Donnie was born on October 8, 1940, in Davidson County, North Carolina, to the late Hobert “Hobe” Quince Smith and Beulah Martha Smith. He was also preceded in death by his beloved wife of 45 years, Doris Glover Smith, and his infant daughter, Eleisa Michelle Smith.

The family will receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. on Tuesday, January 27, 2026, at Hartsell Funeral Home of Albemarle. A funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday, January 28, 2026, at Hartsell Funeral Home’s Lefler Memorial Chapel, officiated by Pastor Mike Almond. Burial will follow at Mountain Creek Primitive Baptist Church Cemetery.

Donnie is survived by his son, Brad (Heather) Smith of Richfield and his sister, Zula Smith of Albemarle. The family would like to give a special thank you to Sherry Smith Denton for the unwavering love and care she gave Donnie over the years.

Donnie was a hard worker throughout his life, spending many years in the trucking industry. He enjoyed NASCAR, watching Fox News, gardening, animals, and, most of all, time spent with his family.

He will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered.
