Donna Mabry-Furr, 65 of Oakboro, NC was called home to be with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on Tuesday, May 19, 2026. While many knew her as Donna, she was best known as Mama, Maw Maw, and Child of God, as her faith and family were the pillars that her life was built and sustained on during her short time on Earth.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 pm on Saturday, May 23, 2026 at Big Lick Baptist Church of Oakboro, NC with Rev. Jeff Springer and Rev. Tab Whitley officiating. Burial will follow. The family will receive friends from 12:00 pm until 1:45 pm right before the services.
Donna is lovingly survived by her mother, Barbara Linker; her husband of 24 years, Greg Furr and her children: Whitney Wright (Joseph); Kristen Uhlig (Jason); and Leslie Furr. She is also survived by her sisters Alison Burris (Randy) and Mistie Coble (Todd). She is survived by many nieces and a nephew, as well as 4 grandchildren, who were her constant joys. She leaves behind many close friends whom she dearly loved.
She was preceded in death by her father, Rev. Larry Linker, and her grandparents.
Donna was born in Cabarrus County, but was a Stanly County native as she lived a majority of her life in Oakboro. She went to Oakboro Elementary and graduated from West Stanly High School. After graduating, she went on to earn her degree from Mars Hill University. Later she went back to school and earned her Masters Degree in Education at Wingate University. She poured her heart into teaching at various levels including Elementary, Middle, and High School over her 20 years of experience. If she taught you, she loved you.
While she loved teaching, her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ was the ultimate source of joy in her life. Her firm foundation was build at an early age and modeled for her by her parents who always pointed and led her to Jesus. She continued to live out this faith as a prayer warrior for many friends, church members, and even strangers she’d meet and pray for. She could often be found reading her Bible, and she loved her church family. As a longtime active member of Big Lick Baptist Church, she enjoyed serving in various roles. Through the years, you could find her singing in the choir, teaching Sunday School, or leading women’s prayer group.
Her family was the second pillar that her life was built on. You could find her happiest when she was surrounded by her grandbabies as she would affectionately refer to them. She adored her husband and couldn’t be prouder of her girls and their spouses. Donna was a person of quality over quantity. When you were with her, she gave you her full and undivided attention. She had a way of making you feel special. She loved fiercely, she lived faithfully, and she remained planted firmly in her faith until the Lord called her home.
