Donald "Ray" Barbee

Donald “Ray” Barbee, 90, of Locust, passed away Tuesday, September 22, 2026 at home, surrounded by his family.

Ray was born August 10, 1936 in North Carolina to the late Grady Julius and Ada Catherine Barbee.

He was also preceded in death by his brothers Bill Barbee, Aubrey “Short” Barbee, Herman Barbee, Sr. and sister Patricia Smith.

He was self-employed as a commercial garage door installer for many years. Upon retirement, he enjoyed gardening and spending time with his family.

He is survived by his wife of 70 years, Loretta Barbee, daughter Susan Curlee (Edward) of Locust, and son Danny Barbee (Melinda) of Locust. Also grandchildren Dylan Barbee, Sarah Curlee, and Hannah Ward, as well as many great-grandchildren.

The family will receive friends from 3:30 pm - 4:15 pm, Sunday, September 27, 2026 at St. Stephens Wesleyan Church. The funeral service will be on Sunday at 4:30 pm at St. Stephens Wesleyan Church in Concord officiated by Rev Gary Morris. Burial will follow at the St. Stephens Wesleyan Church Cemetery at 7601 Brusharbor Road, Concord.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St. Stephens Wesleyan Church Building Fund, 7601 Brusharbor Road, Concord NC 28025.
