Dean Waddell Humphries

Dean Waddell Humphries, 87, of Concord, NC went home to be with his Heavenly Father on Friday, December 12, 2025 at his home with his beloved wife by his side.

He was born April 1, 1938 in Gaffney, SC. His family moved early in his life to Cliffside, NC where he grew up.

Dean was a son of the late Golden D. Humphries and Elva Blanton Humphries. Dean was also preceded in death by brother Jack Humphries and sister, Ruth Webb.

Dean had a memorable smile and big personality that will be remembered by all who knew him including the kind Hospice nurses who cared for him in his final weeks. This personality perfectly suited him for his life's professional calling to funeral service.

He graduated from Cincinnati College of Mortuary Science and was very soon thereafter drafted into the Army. He was proud to serve his country and was twice awarded Soldier of the Month. Following his military service, Dean began his lifelong career as a funeral director and mortician. For more than 55 years he tirelessly provided care for grieving families.

Dean is survived by his loving wife of 61 years, Gwen Brookshire Humphries, his children whom he adored and was so proud of, son Don Humphries and wife, Dwaina; daughter Carol Silver and husband, Scott; his pride and joy grandson, Lucas Silver; and his faithful tuxedo girl, Coco.

Dean loved being with his family, working in his yard, making his special party mix for the children, good conversations, Southern gospel music, and Blowing Rock.

A private family service will be held with burial in Carolina Memorial Park, Harrisburg, NC.
