Danny Luce

Danny Lee Luce, 75, of Harrisburg, North Carolina, passed away on November 3, 2022, leaving behind an adoring family and a legacy of love and service to others.

He was born in Fort Wayne, Indiana on July 25, 1947. After graduating from Northside High School, he enlisted in the United States Navy, serving tours on both the USS Dennis J. Buckley DD 808 and the USS Alfred A. Cunningham DD 752 during the Vietnam War. Upon returning to Indiana, he married the love of his life, Shirley Vanderhoff, and they settled in Fort Wayne. They began their family there, moving a few times before finally calling Harrisburg, North Carolina their home.

While in Harrisburg, Danny joined Harrisburg United Methodist Church (UMC) and was an active and beloved member of the church community, serving with several ministries and building relationships with countless youth and families. He worked faithfully as a plant manager for Dana Corporation, then Eaton Corporation, before retiring from Eaton after many years. He made full use of his retirement, playing golf, working part-time at Lowe’s Foods, woodworking, and especially enjoying time with his family.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Richard and Lelah Mae Luce, as well as his sister, Barbara, brother, Richard, and his daughter, Jacki Grinstead.

He is survived by his cherished wife, Shirley Luce; sisters Darlene (Ronnie) Myers and Bev Acker; sons Scott (Michelle) Luce and Ken (Sarah) Luce; daughter Brenda (Paul) Eason; twelve grandchildren, Mason, Montanna, Marshal, Maccoy, Malia, Clayton, Katie, Kari, Emily, Wesley, Kelly, and Dani; and three great-grandchildren, Scarlet, Owen, and Emry.

Services will be held on Monday, November 7, 2022, at Harrisburg United Methodist Church (4560 Hwy 49 S., Harrisburg, North Carolina). Visitation will begin at 10:00 A.M. followed by a funeral at 11:00 A.M. Interment will follow the service at Carolina Memorial Park in Harrisburg. Harrisburg UMC will provide a meal for all friends and family following the services and interment. The family would love for guests to stay and share a meal together along with sharing remembrances and celebrations of Danny’s full life.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Stepping Stones Preschool, a ministry of Harrisburg UMC. These donations will benefit the Stepping Stones scholarship fund and the Sam Wallace Memorial Fund.
