Daniel Wilbur Church, 77, of Concord, passed away Thursday, June 26, 2025, at Atrium Health Cabarrus Hospital in Concord.
Dan was born January 9, 1948, in Swords Creek, Virginia to the late Clyde William Church and the late Nora Belle Hylton Church.
He was also preceded in death by first wife, Janet Keaney Pastorik Church; second wife, Deborah Fisher Church; and ten siblings.
Survived by wife, Betsy Ann Goenner-Church; sisters, Nora Lefler, Rometta Buckhoven, and Shirley Sutton; daughters, Patrice Blanner (Chuck), Alise Pastorik, Charise Pastorik (Ron Marsilio), Melissa Hysong (Jason); stepchildren, Laurie Palasz (Miles) and Christopher Goenner (Melisha); grandchildren, Jessica (Shawn), Adam, Gage, Jason, Carleigh Rose, Devin (Taylor), Brenton, Madisen, Peyton, Kailyn, Mildred; great grandchildren, Lila, Brynlee, Isabelle. Dan was also survived by numerous, loving nieces, nephews and cousins.
Dan was a Seaman Recruit in the United States Coast Guard from 1966-1970 where he earned the National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal with Bronze Star and the Vietnam Campaign Medal with Device. After leaving the Coast Guard, Dan moved to Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania where he was employed at US Steel, Clairton PA for 35 years. After retiring from US Steel, he moved to Johnstown, PA in 2005 and was employed by Conemaugh Memorial Hospital where he then retired. He was also a member of the Masons.
First and foremost, Dan was a family man. All of his family was important to him. He loved to cook, travel, garden, hunt and fish. Recently he took up reading and really enjoyed it. As a young man growing up, Dan sang four part harmony with his brothers Eugene and Jerry and his sister Sue. He also enjoyed various kinds of music.
Prior to moving to North Carolina, Dan was a member at First United Methodist Church in Johnstown, PA where he enjoyed helping out with many aspects of the church. Since moving to Concord, he has attended Poplar Tent Presbyterian Church with his wife Betsy. His church family was very important to him as well.
The family will receive friends from 11:00 am - 11:30 am, Thursday, July 3, 2025, at Poplar Tent Presbyterian Church-Concord, 6841 Poplar Tent Rd, Concord, NC 28027. The memorial service will follow at 11:30 am, Thursday, July 3, 2025, at Poplar Tent Presbyterian Church-Concord, 6841 Poplar Tent Rd, Concord, NC 28027
