Cordelia Yvonne Metcalfe, 87, passed away peacefully on November 30, 2025, at Tucker House in Kannapolis, North Carolina, surrounded by the family who cherished her. A longtime resident of Harrisburg, NC, Cordelia was born on August 20, 1938, in Owensboro, Kentucky, to Irene Still Miller and Charles William Miller.
A woman of deep faith and unwavering kindness, Cordelia lived a life defined by love, generosity, and joy. She was a faithful member of Providence Baptist Church, where she sang in the choir, served as the church librarian for several years, and shared her gentle spirit with everyone she met. Her devotion to Christ guided her daily life, and her compassion touched countless people.
Cordelia spent more than 30 years serving the community through her work at Cabarrus Eye Center, where she retired after a long and dedicated career. Her warmth, patience, and genuine care left a lasting impact on colleagues and patients alike.
She was preceded in death by her beloved parents, Irene Still Miller and Charles William Miller; her sister, Deborah Miller Williams; and her grandson, Joshua Allen Moore.
She is survived by her devoted husband of 63 years, Richard Lamar Metcalfe; her children, Asa Metcalfe and Elizabeth Metcalfe; and her grandchildren, Brittany Ferguson (Blake Ferguson), Kassidy Lonetree-Burgess (Marshall Lonetree-Burgess), Amelia Metcalfe, and Miller Metcalfe. She also leaves behind two great-granddaughters, Cora Ferguson and Hannah Ferguson, who were a source of endless joy.
Cordelia embraced life with a bright spirit and a sense of adventure. In her 70s, she went parasailing and even took a memorable ride over Uwharrie National Forest in what the family lovingly recalls as a “somewhat suspicious” helicopter. She found peace and pride in her garden, loved girls’ trips to the beach, and had a remarkable talent for thoughtful gift giving. She enjoyed being involved in charitable events, was an avid NASCAR fan, cheered passionately for the Kentucky Wildcats, and was well-known among loved ones for her simple but unmistakable favorite treat—an ice-cold Coca-Cola packed with extra ice.
Above all, Cordelia was a devoted wife, mother, sister, grandmother, great-grandmother, and friend. Her warmth, generosity, and unwavering love will forever live on in the hearts of all who were blessed to know her.
Family and friends are warmly invited to honor Cordelia’s life, beginning with a visitation on Friday, December 5th, from 6:00–8:00 PM at Hartsell Funeral Home of Concord. A funeral service will be held the next day, Saturday, December 6th, at 1:00 PM in the funeral home chapel, led by Pastor John W. Cashwell. Following the service, a burial will take place at Carolina Memorial Park.
Cordelia’s legacy of love, laughter, and faith will remain forever in the hearts of those she touched.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society.
