Christopher David Faw

Christopher David Faw, 64, of Harrisburg, passed away suddenly on Wednesday,

September 23, 2026, at Presbyterian Hospital Main–Charlotte.

Chris Faw was born on March 13, 1962, in Greenville, South Carolina, the middle son of

Shirley Chapman Faw and the late Stanley Virgil Faw. The family moved to North Carolina

when Chris was young, where he grew up in the Charlotte area. He attended Independence

High School before continuing his education at Western Carolina University, where he got

his start in the broadcast industry as general manager for WWCU-FM and served as on-air

talent for the student-run radio station.

In high school, Chris met the love of his life, Cathy, and they married in 1984. After their

children were born, Chris and Cathy settled in Harrisburg, North Carolina, nearly 35 years

ago to raise their son, Taylor, and daughter, Kelby. From the moment they moved, the town

became deeply woven into their lives.

Chris built a distinguished career in the media industry, working for Charter Communications

(Spectrum's parent company) for more than 30 years before retiring as Senior Vice

President of Operations. During his career, he was awarded a Technical Emmy for

innovation in advertising, held a U.S. patent, and was inducted into the CableFax Hall of

Fame. Following his retirement, he continued his work as a media consultant. His

professional achievements reflected a commitment to excellence and forward-thinking vision

that influenced the field long after his departure.

Chris's passion for community service began with the Harrisburg Parks and Recreation

Advisory Board, where he volunteered at various Parks and Recreation events. He and

Cathy were founding members of the Harrisburg YMCA. His dedication to public service led

to his election to the Harrisburg Town Council in 2023, where he remained actively engaged

in conversations about parks and recreation programs, planning, and the future of

Harrisburg.

In 2023, Chris made a $100,000 gift and pledge to Western Carolina University to create

two new annual scholarships in support of future students in the communications program, a

meaningful return to the institution where his career began.

And yet, Chris's proudest accomplishment was being a father and grandfather. To his three

beloved grandchildren—Abigail, Blake, and Oliver—he was lovingly known as "Luda." His

legacy of personal and professional growth touched everyone who knew him.

Survivors include his wife, Cathy Faw of Harrisburg, NC; son, Taylor (Melanie) Faw;

daughter, Kelby (Dale) Smith; grandchildren, Abigail, Blake, and Oliver; and brothers,

Alan and Barry Faw.

A celebration of Chris's life will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Sunday, October 11, 2026, at the

Harrisburg YMCA, where he and Cathy were founding members.
