Charles Herbert “Hub†Gragg, Sr., 95, of Albemarle, passed away March 13, 2013 at Stanly Regional Medical Center, Albemarle. The family will receive friends at Hartsell Funeral Home, Albemarle on Saturday, March 16, 2013, from 12:30 pm until 2:00 pm. At other times the family will meet at Boyce’s home. The funeral service will follow in Hartsell Funeral Home’s Lelfer Memorial Chapel on Saturday, March 16, 2013 at 2:00 pm. Rev. David Nolan will officiate and the burial will be in Norwood Cemetery. Graveside military honors will be conducted by Stanly County DAV, Chapter 12. Born February 25, 1918 in Kanawha County, West Virginia, he is the son of the late Charles Lemuel Gragg and the late Adelaide Gragg Gragg. In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his first wife, Ethel Thompson Gragg, an infant son, brothers; Lemuel Gragg and Cliff Gragg, and a sister Audrey Wellborn. He is survived by his second wife, Mary Alice Dennis Gragg of the home; daughters, Joyce G. Melton and husband Jim of New London, Boyce G. Blalock of Albemarle, and Lisa Aycock and husband Eddie of Salisbury; sons, Charles H. Gragg, Jr. of Albemarle, Marshall Lohman Gragg of Albemarle, Dennis Helms and wife Barbara of Gates, NC, Toby Helms and wife Debbie of Rockwell; 12 grandchildren, 16 great grandchildren; sisters, Nell G. Colson and Mildred G. McManus, both of Norwood. Mr. Gragg was a carpenter for A&H Millwork and also worked for Young Manufacturing in Norwood for 20 years. He was a member of Palestine United Methodist Church and served in the U.S. Army during WWII. Memorials may be made to Palestine United Methodist Church, 36414 Palestine Road, Albemarle, NC 28001.
