Carolyn Sue Hurst, 81, went home to be with the Lord on June 6, 2026 in Kannapolis, North Carolina
Born May 31, 1945 in Clarksburg, WV to George Homer Sommerville and Nellie Viola Douglas Sommerville. She graduated from Unidis High School in 1963 and shortly after married the love of her life, Jackson D. Hurst. They were married for 50 years and had one daughter, Jacqueline Sue Hurst Blackwell and son in law, Derick Paige Blackwell, both of Concord, North Carolina.
She is preceded in death by her parents, her husband, one brother, Robert Wesley "Butch" Sommerville, brothers in law, Cecil Dale Goodwin and Charles William McIntyre, and sister in law Rosalea Mae Sommerville.
She is survived by her daughter and son in law, and one brother James Edward Sommerville and wife Barb, four sisters, Shirley Ann Goodwin, Betty Jean Maxwell and husband Raymond, Peggy Lee McIntyre, Cathy Belle Aylestock and husband Bernie, and several nieces and nephews.
She worked at United Hospital Center in Clarksburg, WV for 35 years as a physical therapy assistant.
She loved the outdoors and living life on her farm at Buffalo Lake, where she was born and raised. She enjoyed riding horses, gardening, hunting, antiquing, trips to Amish County and the Outer Banks, and spending time at her cabin with family, friends and her many cats, dogs and horses.
She was strong and hard working with a kind spirit, a caring heart, a loving and giving nature, and a smile that brightened the lives of all who were blessed to know her, She will be greatly missed.
Per Carolyn's wishes, she will be cremated and there will be no public service. A celebration of life will be held at a later date.
Her family asks that in lieu of flowers, donations be made in her name to Alzheimer's Association to help with research and finding a cure, or the ASPCA to help animals in need, a cause that was close to her heart.
