Carl passed peacefully. He was born to George and Veloney of Efland, North Carolina.
At 18 he entered the US Air Force and served as an electrical technician in North Africa. After his term in the Air Force, he completed his GED, then earned a BA and MA at Arizona State University. Later he earned a Doctorate of Education from the University of Missouri. He said, “it’s not where you start, it’s where hard work takes you.” Carl retired from Central Piedmont Community College after 16 years as a VP/Dean. He also served as a consultant to several colleges locally and internationally.
Carl was a member of the Rotary Club and Lions Club. As a member of Bethel Church Midland, he was instrumental in raising funds for the Sanctuary building.
He built his dream home in Midland and enjoyed home projects. One of his favorite pastimes was sitting on his porch swing enjoying the view and peacefulness.
Carl and his wife Carol of 54 wonderful years enjoyed domestic and international travel.
With a life-long interest in aviation, he flew for many years and was one of the original members of the Desert Sky Riders Flying Club.
Carl leaves behind his wife Carol, along with sons George (a successful businessman) and Paul (a very successful computer engineer). He was very proud of both of them. He also leaves behind his grandchildren: Allison, Nicholas, Samantha, and Darby. He has 3 1/2 wonderful great grandchildren: Maddison, Isla, Calvin with one more on the way. Survivors also include nephews Dan and Douglas and nieces Doris, Carol, Dorothy, Jane, Peggy, and Karla. His life was blessed and full of love.
A Memorial Service will be held at 12:30 on Tuesday, October 17th, at Bethel Church, 12700 Idlebrook Road in Midland, N.C.
In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made to “Feed the Souls Food Pantry” at Bethel Church Midland at www.feedthesouls.org or a charity of your choice.
