Concord

Brandon Charles Cornelius, 47, passed away Thursday, February 8, 2024 in Concord, North Carolina.

Born to Charles Brown Cornelius and Linda Wyatt Cornelius on November 11, 1976 in Salisbury, North Carolina, Brandon was known as a man of strong faith, and a modern day MacGyver, innovator, and problem solver.

A 1995 graduate of East Rowan High School, Brandon furthered his education at Central Piedmont Community College, where he earned an associate’s degree in Civil Engineering and Surveying. Brandon owned and operated his own commercial grading and concrete business, and his work can be seen throughout Rowan, Cabarrus, Mecklenburg, and various other counties.

On October 7, 2006, Brandon married the love of his life, Lindsay Martin. Their marriage was blessed with a wonderful daughter, Scarlett Cornelius. Brandon's role as a family man was one he cherished above all others. He loved his family deeply, and they had great love and respect for him as well.

Brandon was a devoted follower of Christ, attended Christ Point Church and imitated Christ in humility, kindness, generosity, and service. He was an outdoor enthusiast, often found boating, backpacking, or working in his yard. He earned his Eagle Scout award at the age of 13, around the same time he began showing an interest in restoring boats. Over the years, Brandon restored and owned several boats, eventually obtaining his Captain’s License. Some of his favorite memories included backpacking with his brother and brother-in-law through various national parks. His commitment to serving others was evident through his volunteer work with the United Way Day of Caring, Nazareth Community Church Men’s Group, Nazareth Children’s Home, and the YMCA, among others.

Predeceased by his grandparents Benjamin and Bertie Cornelius, and Britt and Estelle Wyatt, Brandon’s legacy is carried on by his wife, Lindsay Cornelius and daughter, Scarlett Cornelius; parents, Charles and Linda Cornelius; brother, Andrew Cornelius and wife Aubrie; brother, Adam Cornelius; sister, Brittany Honeycutt and husband Taylor; uncles & aunts, Tommy and Lois Wyatt, Eric and Phyllis Ennis, and Devan and Doris Brown; nephews & nieces, Wyatt, Benjamin, Charlie, and Anna Cornelius, and Noah, Elijah, and Stella Honeycutt.

The family will receive friends on Thursday, February 15, 2024 from 11:30am - 12:45pm at Christ Point Church, 4503 Ridge Road, Charlotte, NC 28269. A service to honor Brandon's life will be held immediately after at 1:00 pm at Christ Point Church, officiated by Pastor James Metsger. Graveside services will be private.

The family would like to thank Dr. Stuart Salmon, Patti Vanderplow, Ebony Shears, and Meagan Cornelius of Levine Cancer Institute University, Dr. Chris Christy and Angie Wilson of Sanger Heart and Vascular Institute Concord, and Debbie King and Mercedes Espinal-Lujan of Via Health Partners.

In lieu of flowers Brandon requested a memorial fund be set up for Scarlett’s college. Contributions will be moved to the official scholarship fund once established, and can currently be made using the GoFundMe link: gofundme.com/brandoncornelius
