Bobby Harold Barbee, Sr., 85, of Locust, passed away Tuesday, February 26, 2013 at Carolinas Medical Center – NorthEast in Concord. Mr. Barbee was born November 24, 1927 in Stanly County to the late Realus and Joy Hartsell Barbee of Locust. He was also preceded in death by his brother, Willie Barbee and his sisters, Ruby Barbee, Martha Lowder, Mary Little, and Betty Osborne. Mr. Barbee was a veteran of the Army/Air Force. He was the owner of Barbee Insurance and Associates since 1962 and served as a Representative in the North Carolina House from 1987 – 2004. He was a charter member of Carolina Presbyterian Church of Locust where he served as a deacon, led the congregational singing, oversaw mercy ministry projects, and was an instrumental part in the construction of the church. He served on multiple mission trips to various areas of the world. The family will receive friends from 6 – 8 p.m., Thursday, February 28, 2013 at Hartsell Funeral Home in Midland. The funeral service will be at 11:00 a.m., Friday, March 1, with a 30 minute state prior to the service, at Carolina Presbyterian Church of Locust, officiated by Rev. Patrick Womack. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. At other times, the family will meet at his home. Survivors include his loving wife of 50 years, Jacqueline Pethel Barbee, of the home; his daughters, Tammy Burleson and her husband, Trent, Michelle Soots and her husband, Monty, Crystal Moore and her husband, Danny, Julie Svenson and her husband, David; his son, Bobby Jr. and his wife, Jennifer; a special adopted daughter Edna H. Edge; his grandchildren, Jeremy Burleson and wife, Stephanie, Jodi Brown and husband, Timothy, Katie Soots and fiancé Nathan Furr, Kyle Soots, Molly, Luke, and Ella Moore, Abi, Honor, and Ty Svenson, Bobby III “Trey”, Jillian, Will, Mia, Lainie, and Pearl Barbee; great-grandchildren, Jackson Brown and Parker Burleson; his sister, Donnie Page; and his brothers, Joe Barbee, and Claudie Barbee. Memorials may be made to Hospice of Stanly County, 960 N. First Street, Albemarle, NC 28001 or the Mission Fund at Carolina Presbyterian Church, P. O. Box 369, Locust, NC 28097. Hartsell Funeral Home of Midland is serving the Barbee family.
