Bickett Douglas Fort, 73, of Concord, passed away Monday, July 3, 2023, at his home in Concord, NC. 

Bickett Douglas Fort (affectionately known as “BD” and “Bic”) was born September 7, 1949 in Manhattan, New York to Claude Bickett Fort, and Alleane Shell Fort. He grew up in Teaneck, New Jersey where he played football for Teaneck High School. He later moved to Winston Salem, N.C. where he attended Laurinburg Academy in Laurinburg, N.C. for the gifted and talented. Through a competitive process, Bickett was nominated by his high school and was accepted into the N.C. Governor’s School program for gifted and talented students that integrated academic disciplines in the arts and other unique courses. He graduated from R.J. Reynold’s High School in Winston Salem, N.C. Always on a quest for knowledge, he continued his academic pursuits including attendance at N.C. A&T State University (Greensboro, N.C.). He received a BS degree in Business Administration and Management from N.C. State University (Raleigh, N.C.), and attended North Carolina Central University School of Law (Durham, N.C.). Bickett worked at N.C. State University in Raleigh, N.C. from which he retired as Assistant to the Director of State Office Climate. His entrepreneurial skills lead him to establish his own company, Superior Business Services and Solutions, LLC and other ventures. Additionally, he used his skills working as a claims coordinator for both Triangle Roofing Renovation, LLC and Xpress Roofing, LLC. Bickett will be remembered as an outgoing and outspoken individual who loved to travel and enjoyed life with friends and colleagues. He especially spent time with family, even though he did not stay long. Bickett was devoted to his mother ensuring that she was well taken care of and making sure that all of her needs were met.

A memorial service for Mr. Fort will be held on Saturday, July 15, 2023 at 11:00 a.m. at the Hartsell Funeral Home Chapel, 12115 University City Boulevard, Harrisburg, North Carolina. His father preceded him in death. Bickett is survived by his mother, Mrs. Alleane Reeves (Concord, NC), Aunts Mrs. Bettie Anderson (Apex, NC), Mrs. Eula Fort (Raleigh, NC), Mrs. Elizabeth English (Bowie, MD), Mrs. Helen Boone (Piscataway, NJ), Mrs. Juanita Peterson (Boston, MA); special friends Ronnie and Kay Sockwell (Winston Salem, NC), and Jim Quirk (Fuquay Varina, NC); godson Sean Stafford (Durham, NC); and a host of cousins, other relatives, and special friends.
