Betty R. Husbands

October 20, 1928 — June 19, 2025

Betty R. Husbands, 96, of Concord, NC passed away on the morning of June 19, 2025, while recuperating from hip surgery. She was preceded in death by her husband Howard and her sister Jean Deaton.

Betty was born in Camden, NJ, the middle of three siblings born to the late Wilbur and Lidie Radcliffe. Growing up in Claymont, Delaware, she went to work at the main office of the Worth Steel corporation and shortly after married her high school sweetheart Howard “Hus” Husbands. Betty and Hus celebrated 70 years of marriage before he passed away in 2018. As a contented and talented homemaker, Betty raised three children while creating a beautiful home for her family. She was active in her church-Holly Oak Methodist, leading the women’s circle and, as a self-taught seamstress, created home décor, stylish clothing and many beautiful hand-made quilts. When she finished raising her children, she worked for a short time at the Claymont School district, the same school she attended while growing up. Following Hus’s retirement, after several years of “snow-birding” to New Smyrna Beach, they moved to Edgewater, Florida where they spent more than 30 years creating a new life of shuffleboard, cards, relaxing with new friends, volunteering at her new church and continuing a favorite pastime of cruising and traveling with their life-long friends from Delaware.

Betty is survived by her younger brother Jim (Rosalie) of Orlando Fl., her three children: Jim Husbands of Roaring Gap, NC; Marcia (Wayne) Logan of Hockessin, DE and Lori (Tom) Milo of Concord, NC and daughter-in-law Betty Husbands. Her seven grandchildren include Jennifer (Jared) Lloyd, Michael Husbands, Sarah (Yoshi) Tochiki, Amanda (Joel) Porter, Rebecca (Keith) Younger, Zack (Drew) Milo and Nikki (Kory) Kowolski. Her seventeen great grandchildren range from 13 ½ years to 1 year old, including Railey, Salem, Carter, Beckham, Fae, Poppy, Maura, Kendra, Logan, Winnie, Ruby, Parker, Aurora, Ella, Eva, Liam and Belle.

A service celebrating Betty’s life will be held on Saturday, August 16, 2025, at Providence Presbyterian Church, 246 Branchview Dr., Concord at 11:00 A.M. The family will receive friends prior to the start of the service. A second celebration will be held in Wilmington, DE on September 6, 2025, prior to her burial at Gracelawn Memorial Park in Newark, DE.
