Barry Newton Ellsworth, born October 17, 1945, in Norfolk, England, passed away surrounded by the love of the family he cherished. Born to Walter Ellsworth and Betty Webster, Barry grew up in Princeton Junction, where he developed the humor, integrity, and creativity that would define him throughout his life.
In 1969, Barry married the love of his life, Linda Campbell, beginning a 56‑year marriage rooted in devotion, partnership, and laughter. Together they raised two daughters, Shannon Epstein and Trish Webster, and welcomed a son‑in‑law, Scott, into the family. Barry took immense joy in his grandchildren, Grace Epstein and Andi Webster, whose presence brought him pride, delight, and endless stories to share.
Barry served proudly in the United States Navy during the Vietnam War, an experience that shaped his deep sense of duty and patriotism. After his service, he built a long and respected career as a carpenter, taking particular pride in his work on the campus of Princeton University—a contribution he spoke of often and with great pride.
Known for his quirky, often delightfully silly wit, Barry brought humor into every room he entered. His ability to make others laugh with a playful comment only he could deliver was one of his most endearing traits. In retirement, Barry embraced painting, a creative skill he nurtured with joy and dedication. He also enjoyed the simple pleasures of life: a good game of tennis, a thoughtful match of chess, and a well‑poured Scotch shared in good company. His warmth and generosity extended to a wide circle of family, including beloved in‑laws, nieces, nephews, and friends who felt like family.
Barry was predeceased by his brother, Richard Ellsworth, and is survived by many who will carry his memory forward with love and gratitude. Those who knew him will remember his steady presence, his craftsmanship, his humor, and the way he made others feel valued.
His life will be honored privately by his family, who will forever hold him close in their hearts.
