Audrey Meyer Bickenbach, 90, died peacefully at home in Norwood, N.C. on Monday, June 20, 2022. She is survived by her husband Alan Bickenbach of 68 years, 3 children and spouses, 5 grandchildren and 6 great grandchildren. Her devotion and love for her family was obvious and she was cherished in return.
Audrey grew up in Elkader, Iowa with the Turkey River in her backyard. Growing up in the country and being an active member in the 4H program shaped the treasured woman she would become. As a teenager her father bought an airport where she worked and received flying lessons. Audrey loved flying the “Aerona Champion” whether instructing students, flying to flight breakfasts or even to Elmhurst College where she met her husband. While at Elmhurst she earned a degree in Sociology and later supported the family by teaching second grade while her husband was in school.
Her married life consisted of raising a family in many different locations due to a husband serving our country. Audrey got hooked on travel, throughly enjoying the 6 years living in Europe and 2 years in Gtmo, Cuba. She planned and led tours to many different countries. Back in the states, her 30 years of residing in Beaufort, S.C. was a special time for her. Family was close and visits were frequent. Audrey will always be remembered when a dolphin or pelican is sighted and even more so a Bible.
Audrey’s faith ran deep and she was often seen reading her Bible, her devotional book, or working on her Bible study lessons. She participated in a card program for people in need of encouragement living out her faith. She donated her time and gave generously to charities. She exemplified Hebrews 13:16 “Do not neglect to do good and to share what you have for such sacrifices are pleasing to God”.
