Arthur Lynn Snuggs of Charlotte, age 68, died suddenly doing what he loved and following his heart. Born in Albemarle, NC, Lynn is preceeded in death by father Charles Crawley Snuggs, mother Evelyn Carpenter Snuggs, and nephew Eric Snuggs, He is survived by brothers Harold Ray Snuggs, Chris Carlton Snuggs, and nephew Chris Snuggs, Jr.
Lynn attended and graduated from NC State University in 1978 with a degree in Electrical Engineering. He was hired by Duke Power in June 1978 in the Transmission Department, and worked for Duke for 46 years, retiring as a Principal Engineer working with software systems that controlled Duke’s electrical grid.
An active member of Central Steele Creek Presbyterian Church, Lynn served as Deacon and Elder. He was active in community organizations such as the Pleasant Hill Presbyterian Cemetery, in which he was recently voted president-elect.
Active in Boy Scouts, attaining the highest scouting rank of Eagle Scout in 1973. He was a member of the Order of the Arrow. Lynn was recognized by his peers with the prestigious Silver Beaver Award, the highest scouting award in Mecklenburg County Council.
Best known for his work with Boy Scouts, Lynn served as Scoutmaster of BSA Troop 45 (Mecklenburg County) for over 40 years. He was known for having an “active” troop that did monthly campouts (rain or shine) throughout the year. Lynn gave selflessly to the scouting program and to the mentorship of the boys that passed through the troop under his guidance. Dozens of the boys from Troop 45 attained the rank of Eagle Scout during Lynn’s tenure.
Lynn was a good man, an excellent role model for the lives he touched, and a pillar of the Steele Creek community. He served his church and the community enthusiastically, helping anyone that he was able to, often putting the needs of others before his own. He lived by the scout oath, law, and motto to “do a good turn daily”. Lynn was a man of impeccable character and left us far too soon. While he will be missed more than we can express, we take peace in knowing that he is now resting in the arms of our Lord and Savior, whom he loved and served for all of his days.
