William Anthony "Arthur" Russell, 78, of Concord, North Carolina, was born on August 1, 1948, in Charlotte, North Carolina, and passed away peacefully on Monday, August 3, 2026, surrounded by the love of his family.
Arthur was a hardworking man with a kind heart and a personality that drew people to him. He never met a stranger and could strike up a conversation with just about anyone. Whether sharing stories, lending a helping hand, or making someone laugh, Arthur had a way of making everyone feel welcome.
Arthur spent many years doing what he loved—working on cars at his shop, Wilgrove Amoco. He took great pride in his work and enjoyed helping friends, neighbors, and customers alike. Outside of the shop, he had a lifelong love of motorcycles and cherished the freedom of the open road. Some of his happiest memories were made at the beach, spending time with his family and enjoying life's simple pleasures.
Above all else, Arthur loved his family. He was a devoted husband, Pop, Pawpaw, brother, and friend whose love, guidance, and sense of humor will be deeply missed by all who knew him.
Arthur is survived by his loving wife of 53 years, Ann Wilson Russell; his sons, Butch Russell and Andy Russell and wife, Walker; his grandsons, Justin Lomax, Andrew Russell, Abe Russell, and Nickolas Russell; great-granddaughter, Tatum Rivera; and his sisters, Joanne Russell and Linda Heaston and husband, Charles; his brother, Clyde Russell; and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his father, Whitney Russell; his mother, Willie Ruth Harkey; his brother, Andy Russell; and his daughters, April Russell and Sheryl Russell.
Arthur will be remembered for his generous heart, his strong work ethic, his love for motorcycles and the beach, and the friendships he built wherever he went. His legacy lives on through the family he loved so deeply and the countless lives he touched with his kindness and warm spirit.
A celebration of Arthur's life will be held on Thursday, August 6, 2026, at United Love Baptist Church in Midland. The family will receive visitors from 10:00 am - 11:45 am. The service will begin promptly at noon, officiated by Rev. Marvin Tyson, with the burial following immediately after. The family appreciates the love, prayers, and support shown during this difficult time.
