Rosella Smith, 86, of Concord, passed away Sunday, December 1, 2019 at home.
Born December 23, 1932 in Spruce Pine, she was the daughter of the late Nora Gunter Deal and Bryson Gunter. She was also preceded in death by brothers, D.B. and Roland Gunter.
She is survived by beloved husband, William Smith; four children, Jackie Stiles Howie, Jocque Stiles (Stephanie), Lori Nance and Marty Smith; sisters, Reva Giles (Wilbo) and Pat Howell (Ben); four grandchildren, Jim Howie (Holly), Keily Stiles, Alyssa Stiles and Kayla McCune; great-grandchildren, Jessie, Emmie and Sawyer Howie; and numerous loving nieces and nephews.
Rosella loved to entertain on her back porch or simply sit and watch the birds. She enjoyed visiting the mountains and traveling out West. Family gatherings were some of her favorite past times. She was very generous, gave selflessly and welcomed people with open arms into her home and heart. She was an excellent gardener and cook, always passing along traditional recipes and sharing veggies from her garden. It wasn’t unusual for her to giggle if someone scraped their knee or bumped their head, at the same time she was helping to bandage them up and ease the pain. She was known by many names; Rosella, Rose, Rosie, Mother and Nana. She was a loving wife, mother, sister, grandmother, great-grandmother, aunt and true friend. Those who knew her loved her dearly, but if given the opportunity, she would say, “I love you more.”
In celebration of Rosella's life, a service will be held at 3:00 pm, Saturday, December 14, 2019 at Hartsell Funeral Home's Chapel, Harrisburg. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service, from 2:00 pm - 3:00 pm, at the funeral home.
