Mary Speaks

Mary Elizabeth Speaks, 92, of Albemarle, passed away Friday, April 13, 2018 at Bethany Woods Nursing & Rehabilitation Center in Albemarle.

Mrs.Speaks was born July 23, 1925 in West Virginia to the late Robert Lee Jones and the late Ida Mills Ball. In addition to her parents, she was also preceded in death by brothers, John Paul Jones, Vernon Carol Jones, and sisters, Pearl Jones, Nancy Margaret Jones, and Lois Jean Jones. Mary graduated valedictorian of her high school class to later go on to Berea College, where she majored in chemistry.

The family will receive friends from 2:30 - 3:00 pm, Monday, April 16, 2018 at First Baptist Church, Oakboro, 322 N. Main St. Oakboro. The funeral service will be at 3:00 pm in the sanctuary, officiated by Chip Alsobrooks. Burial will follow at the Oakboro Cemetery located at 1397 North Main Street, Oakboro.

Survivors include: daughter, Peggy Carpenter and husband Dan; grandchildren, Lisa Coone, Melinda Allen; great-grandchildren, Dustin Coone, Cecily LuQuire, Jordan Coone, Drew Carpenter, Jackson Yandle, Weston Allen, Emma Yandle; great-great grandson, Mason LuQuire.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to First Baptist Church Oakboro Youth, P.O. Box 10, Oakboro, NC. 28129.
