Lucille Dennis

August 7, 1930 — February 23, 2018

(Evelyn) Lucille Dennis died on February 23, 2018 at her home in Albemarle.  Lucille was born on August 7, 1930 in Montgomery County to Thomas Benjamin Dennis and Nezzie Cornelia Hudson.  She was preceded in death by her parents; stepmother, Bertha Hudson Dennis; brother, Crawford Goodman Dennis; and four sisters, Bertha Mae Dennis, Ruby Cauble, Jenny Lee Dennis, and Alline D. Huneycutt.  Lucille was also preceded in death by her husband, William Adam Huneycutt.

Survivors include her daughter, Zelma Eudy, and husband, Dwight S.; son, Thomas Adam Huneycutt; and wife, Renee; four grandchildren, Angela Burgess, and husband, Michael; Steve Eudy, and wife, Misti; Ashley Huneycutt, (Brandon); and Ria Lee Eudy; and six great-grandchildren, Katelyn and Courtney Burgess; Joannah Gariety, Hayden Gariety, Leanna Eudy, and Kimimela Calkins.

Lucille retired from Collins and Aikman of Albemarle after thirty years of service.  She was a member of the Yadkin River Patriots DAR Chapter, Three Rivers Quilt Guild, and a founding member of the Stanly County Genealogical Society.  She worked diligently to help compile the publication of the Stanly County Heritage Book. She is known for her long term genealogical research in the Dennis and Hudson families. In addition to her love for genealogy and family, she was a passionate quilter, even after suffering an industrial accident which severely damaged her right hand making quilting an extremely difficult activity.  She still was able to quilt as many as thirty quilts in one year.  Lucille's greatest love was her family, especially her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.  Those who know Grandma Lucille will miss a large part of their lives with her passing.

Children have always been at the center of her life.  She was a 4-H leader for several years and always had a house full of somebody's children.  She enjoyed traveling often visiting other states to visit relatives and to search for information on family history.  Friends have said when someone said "Let's go", Lucille would answer "when do I need to be packed?"  Anyone who drove by her house on a sunny, dry day will always have the memory of Grandma Lucille sitting on the porch in her rocking chair and watching nature and traffic.

The family will receive friends from 6:00 pm - 8:00 pm, Sunday, February 25, 2018 at Hartsell Funeral Home of Albemarle. The funeral service will be on Monday at 1:00 pm at Hartsell Funeral Home's Lefler Memorial Chapel in Albemarle officiated by Rev. Dr. Wayne Bennett. Burial will follow at the Hudson Cemetery, Norwood, NC.
