Joan Tompkins

Joan Carol Tompkins, 77, of Charlotte, NC passed away on Saturday, February 23, 2019 at
Curis at Concord. She was surrounded by family when she went to heaven.
Joan was born May 17, 1941 in Little Falls, NY to Ernest G Savino and Palma Louise
(Buttiglione) Savino. She was raised in Little Falls, NY where she graduated High School. She
ran a beauty shop out of her parent’s home until she married. She was able to travel the United
States and to Spain during her spouse’s time in the Air Force. She enjoyed time with family. She
loved to garden. She moved to North Carolina in 1989 to be near her parents and sister. She
was widowed in 1990. She remarried to James Tompkins in September of 2001. She worked in
the insurance industry till her retirement. Joan was a dedicated mother, grandmother and wife.
She had battled a brain tumor for 15 years. She was a strong woman in the face of all she had
endured throughout her life. She lived and worked in the Charlotte area until her passing.
Joan is preceded in death by her parents, Ernest and Palma Savino, and her husband, Steven
D Chadborn. She is survived by husband, James Tompkins and his two sons of Chester SC;
daughter, Michele Walsh of Gainesville FL; son, Barry Chadborn and his wife, Christie Hope
Chadborn of Concord, NC; sister, Annabella Chandler and her husband, Medrick, Sr of Midland;
grandson, Cameron Chadborn of Concord; and several nieces and nephews in the Charlotte
area. The graveside interment memorial service was be on May 17, 2019 at 11AM at Carolina
Memorial Park, 601 Mt. Olivet Road, Kannapolis, NC. Officiant will be Pastor Rodney
Quesenberry of Broadus Baptist Church.
