James Helms

James "Jimmy" Edward Helms, 82, of Concord, passed away Saturday, August 11, 2018 at home in Concord, NC.

Mr. Helms was born December 2, 1935 in North Carolina to the late Olin Davis Helms and the late Mary Kearns Hudson.
He was also preceded in death by brother, Olin David Helms; and sister, Mary "Willene" Herrin.

James worked for Cannon Mills as a shift supervisor for 39 years at plant #1 weave room.  He was a member of the US Army and US Army Reserve from 1954 to 1985.

The family will receive friends from 6:00 pm - 8:00 pm on Sunday, August 12, 2018 at Hartsell Funeral Home of Concord. The funeral service will be on Monday at 3:00 pm at New Hope Freewill Baptist Church at 555 Neisler Rd. in Concord officiated by Rev. Roger Bostic. Burial will follow at the West Concord Cemetery at 331 Union Cemetery Rd. SW, Concord.

Survivors include his wife of 60 years Ethel Eyvone Helms of Concord, NC; son, David (Paula) Helms of Denton, NC; son, James "Peanut" Edward Helms, Jr. of Salisbury, NC; daughter, Anita Gail (Mike) Miller of Kannapolis, NC; son, Joe Randy Helms; brother, Howard (Gail) Helms of Concord, NC; brother, Joe (Diane) Helms of Concord, NC; 6 grandchildren: Amisha, Amy, Glenn, Alex, Chasity, and Devin.; 9 great-grandchildren, and 2 great-great grandchildren.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Hospice & Palliative Care of Cabarrus County, 5003 Hospice Lane, Kannapolis, NC, 28081, or New Hope Freewill Baptist Church 555 Neisler Dr., Concord, NC..
