Hilda Lawrence Small, 83, of Charlotte, NC, passed away, Saturday, September 7, 2019 at Levine & Dickson Hospice House, Huntersville, NC.

Hilda (Hulda) Mason was born on March 8, 1936 in Longbranch, NJ to Jack Mason and Ruth Napoleon Mason.  The family of siblings included James Mason, Danny Mason, Samuel R. Mason Edward Mason and Ruth Henrietta Mason. She grew up in Jersey City , New Jersey. After completing her education in the Jersey City school system.

She met the love of her life and married Henry M. Lawrence Sr. and to this union was borne seven children, Denise E. Lawrence-Wilder, Henry M. Lawrence, Jr. Diane Lawrence-Copeland, Derek J. Lawrence, Dale Lawrence, Lori Nadine Lawrence-Wells and Nicola D. E. Lawrence. She also raised her sister Ruth. She was both a devoted and committed wife and Mother to her husband and children. She worked multiple jobs and at an average 2 jobs at a time. She served by her husbands side faithfully as he pastored a number of churches throughout the country. Many times singing a solo before he preached. They moved from New Jersey to California assisting her husband to pastor Christ is the Answer Deliverance Center. Divorcing sometime later Hilda moved to District of Columbia, there she met and married Eddie Small longtime Government employed and military Veteran. She worked for IBM and after moving to District Heights, MD, as the manager of the TSA Security and Skycaps Baggage Departments for National and Dulles Airport. She also assisted Eddie expand their cleaning company with multiple cleaning contracts like banks, rental car agencies etc. Then moving to Charlotte, NC, where she owned and operated Second Chance Vintage retail store before she entered complete retirement. She was a member of Salem Church of Charlotte with then Pastor Anthony Jinwright. She remained a faithful member until her health declined. She always trusted God and remained in her faith until September 7th at 730 pm where she was called from labor to reward.

She leaves to mourn her departure, one sister, Ruth Mason; five children - Denise, E. Lawrence-Wilder, Henry M. (JR) Lawrence, Jr., Diane Lawrence-Copeland, Derek J. Lawrence (Jenann), Lorie Nadine Wells (deceased), and Nicola D.E. Lawrence (Umaru Yakubu); grandchildren, James K Wilder, Efrahn M. Wilder, Laurence Randy Wilder, Gabriel D. Lawrence, Cory L. Lawrence, Jim Lawrence and Faith La Joy Hammond, Brandon Lawrence, Raychall Lawrence, Derek J. Lawrence, Jr. (Nicole), and Leah Lawrence; and two great-granddaughters; Layla and LaRyn.

The family will receive friends from 9:00 am to 10:45 am, Wednesday, September, 18, 2019 at Hartsell Funeral Home, 12115 University City Blvd, Harrisburg, NC.  The funeral service will follow in the funeral home chapel at 11:00 am, officiated by Sr. Pastor Derek J. Lawrence.  A committal service will be held at 1:00 pm on Wednesday, September 18, 2019 at Crown Memorial Park, 9620 Rodney St, Pineville, NC.  The family repast will follow at 3:00 pm at Hilda's residence.
